Tree Bark by Robert Sena

1PM EST on Zoom

In grade school we are often taught that trees have green leaves and brown trunks, but that is an over-simplification. In a heavily shaded forest the trees may appear to have "brown" trunks but in good daylight where most of our best natural subjects are photographed, the tree trunks and branches are much more varied than that.

Here in Florida, oaks, cypress, and pines are a few of the primary trees we will find in parks, preserves, etc. And each of these trees have colors, textures, and markings making them very different. Understanding or recognizing these differences will help the artist to create more realistic environments for their subjects.

If you are not a member but are interested in attending, please email so we can send you a Zoom invitation.

If you plan to attend and wish to participate, there is a supply list on the Meetings page.

Colored pencil drawings are traditionally created on white or light, neutral-colored papers. But some subjects are much more effective against very dark backgrounds, and those backgrounds can be difficult (and labor-intensive!) to achieve with colored pencil. In this two-day workshop we’ll explore key techniques for using colored pencil on black and very dark-colored surfaces, to keep colors true and luminous. The vase of flowers is an excellent subject for this technique, as the vibrant hues of the flowers in the vase, rendered with only a few colors, add a lovely balance to the reflection of light seen in the vase itself.

Location: Schoolcraft College, 18600 Haggerty Rd, Livonia, MI. Classroom location will be emailed at a later date. Bring your own lunch. No video provided.

Colored Pencil Pals Afterdark

1st Tuesday of each month

7-10 PM

A Zoom get together sponsored by DC 119 Cincinnati

On the first Tuesday of each month, the 'Colored Pencil Pals' is provided in an evening session. We hope to provide an opportunity for those who cannot attend during the day.

You're not required to attend the entire session. Join and leave at your convenience. For those who want to participate in the monthly challenge, we plan to share our artwork about 7:20-7:30. The remainder of the evening is spent on our current projects, and sharing art related discoveries and ideas.

We want to make the fun of CPP available for as many as possible  We do not have the attendance we hoped for on Tuesday evening and are considering moving it to the 3rd Saturday of the month during non-meeting months. 'Lettuce no' if this is a good move or a different date/time is better for you.
