Artist Hightlight: Tracy Frein

As a portrait artist Tracy's inspiration is drawn solely from his subjects and their hidden emotional truths. To be able to capture those emotions, he models his work in black and white colored pencil on drafting film. He has created a unique process where he strips away the colored pencil from the surface to expose the hidden values and retain a textured surface. Working with a limited pallet allows his to concentrate on the forms, values and shadows. Each subject is a compelling visual portrayal of the human spirit, determination and courage.

Tracy's artwork is part of the Narrative Figures exhibition on display May 4-June 25 at the Hill Center Galleries(

In June, Tracy will be the featured artist at the 2017 Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts Special Exhibit, Beyond the Point: The fine art of colored pencil and graphite. (
